The monthly column of ideas from the chief has been discontinued. Must have been the quantity and quality of the responses. Being that I am no longer at Mercer, RIF's don't affect me anymore. I was replaced by a cosmopolitan and diverse workforce in a foreign country. Do I miss Mercer? No. Would I go back? No.

They sucked me back in... which was the best (If not only) option for me. No jobs where I live, and definitely not ANY that pay like Mercer. I'm happy I went back, but my expectations have been realigned. Mercer sux, but not as bad as having no job.

RIF's are going to happen, that is undeniable. They way they are handled by the "Pre-eminent HR Consulting Company" is shameful.
Remember, while at Mercer, you are just a number, and that number is your termination date expressed as mmddyyyy.
How many retirement parties did you get to attend in your office? How many times did you console a comrade after they were "RIF'd, fired, or just let go?
The trend will continue.

Staff cuts will happen. Outsourcing is a trend. The company is going down fast. I get all that. What I don't get is how people that you respected and admired turned out to be such shits. The lying to your face - don't you want to be on interesting projects - I don't understand why people don't like change....

All while they knew you were gone or going. All I can say to them is good luck. You gave up your integrity, you missed most of your kids and families lives, and all you have is work.

When you are on the list it will be a lot harder for you as you won't have anything else to identify yourself with.

A pretty sad life if you ask me. PB

Yea, I once viewed Mercer as a career. Good people, great projects, etc...

I don't mind getting RIF'd. Companies do that from time to time. What I did mind was the way my fellow compadres and I were flat out lied to and mislead. The betrayal will be there for a long time.
